14th Colony News & Announcements Articles

Do you have something to say? Say it here!

This is an open call for writers.

If you have ideas about what works or doesn’t for online business, please contact us. Our budget is… none but we can get your name, avatar and links in front of thousands of people each month. This may enhance your reputation in the industry and even build your resume if you are starting out. We may be open to article exchanges or possibly advertising in exchange for your unique content.

If you have a product or service you want to hype that is *probably* okay. We’ll just need to do a bit of investigation first.

Anyone can say “no”. You can be different and say “yes”!

Linkers Union Rollup

Today I killed LinkersUnion.com.

It was messy, scary and all things considered an interesting process.

Ending Linker’s Union was a tough decision for me. I had a lot of fun with that site. Trying new things, testing ideas and of course giving away free links. But as the economy has turned (and especially my personal economy as a family man) I’ve been doing some heavy accounting with all my websites. Which ones are making money? Which ones are growing? And which ones aren’t?

Linker’s Union was growing but at a pace too far behind the rest of my sites. Most of my sites grow in readership ~50% per month. To get LU to that level was going to take a lot of time. And the core themes of Linker’s Union are not too different from 14th Colony… though a lot more specific. With that in mind I wrapped the content from Linker’s Union into 14th Colony.

I have to say the culture and community of Linker’s Union was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the comments people posted and took their suggestions to heart. One in particular was to dofollow comments which I implemented here. I hope those people will bring their energy here.

Finally, I’d like to thank the members of the blogroll for their support. These are some of the best and brightest in the industry so go see their sites!

Increasing Ads

Per the Adsense Tips from an Expert article I have added Adsense ads to the blog posts. This has been a long time in coming as these posts have been free for a long time. As anyone who runs a blog can attest to, it is a time consuming process and I hope to make it more cost-effective so that I can put more energy here to increase the quality of the articles for you.

I have been testing Mystery Mentor’s Adsense tips on other sites and found that my earnings have increased and become more consistent. This means I can do projections which is nice.

I have also been watching for complaints. After all, if the ads are turning viewers away they are not serving their purpose. So far there have been no complaints but I always have an open ear so if you have comments or suggestions I would love to hear them. You can drop a line in the comments below or email me.

PS I reviewed Yahoo’s contextual ad program here if you missed it.

14thC commenters get link love

In light of recent events I have opened up the comments to remove nofollows after 10 posts. This is based on your email address or account. If you sign up for a free account you can also upload an avatar. Other goodies are on the way.

Hint!

I hope this will open up more discussion and that my spam filters will keep up.

Enjoy!

PS. The plug-in I used is Link Love by All Passion Marketing. What a great name for a company and what a great little plug-in that is as simple as it gets to do something great.

I just wanted to let you know that I am aware it has been a while since I’ve posted anything. I’ve been really busy wrapping up projects and getting the all new, all different 14thC site ready.

It’s going to be very different.

Thanks for hanging in here with me.

PS. This would be a good time to subscribe to the feed if you haven’t already. You don’t want to miss what’s coming.
