New stuff coming: YA Redesign
by Randall McCarley
September 25th, 2006
I’m currently at work for the new design for this site. You can catch a sneak peak here. It will probably be about a week before it is implemented but I’ve been on a roll so we’ll see.
I also created a few other layouts this weekend for clients. I expect they’ll be very pleased so watch out for new site announcements soon! There’s one in particular that I’m very happy with… I’m tempted to give a sneak peak for that one too but better not. Trust me - it’s hot!
Those of you who have been visiting 14thC for a while are probably thinking “another redesign? - this guy is nuts!” And you’re right. I think this makes 4 site redesigns over the last 6 months. But the site keeps growing and getting more complex. Plus I keep trying new things and learning new things. I figure most sites can’t afford to revamp and test as much as I can so I should take advantage of it since I’m the expert. And this site should be a shining example of what “could be” for potential clients.
Things I’m working on for the new site include:
- More professional appearance
- Improved usability
- Better flow between resolutions and page sizes
- Better integration of new scripts and forms that are out of “Beta” :-D
- Clearer sales cycle
As mentioned I’ve been trying new things. One is the contact forms you see on the right of the “core” pages. These are working and I want them to integrate better to see if I can improve performance (if you’ve been thinking about filling one out, I say go for it! It just takes a minute and there’s no obligation or hounding).
I also added “tell a friend” scripts at the end of some of the article pages. I really didn’t expect much from these as most people have become jaded about sharing their email address but they are driving a small amount of traffic so I think I’ll give them a wider implementation.
Integration between the blog and main site still isn’t as smooth as I’d like so I’m going to work on that some more.
And the core pages need to be updated - especially the home page that I think is a bit “blah”. I’m open to suggestions so if there’s something that has been bugging you, please let me know.
Fortunately I had some foresight with the last design so moving things over should just be a matter up replacing the CSS and a couple of include files.
I also had a great idea for an SEO tool last night so when I can work it into my schedule I’ll be working on that.
