WP problem and some amusing SEO links

Randall McCarley

For some reason some people are not getting their email confirmations when signing up to post comments. I am looking into this and really quite baffled since it only happens some of the time and not all of the time. If you have signed up I will be contacting you via email to make sure you have access. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused. If you don’t hear from me, please email me.

SEO Fun

Someone created a site about Google’s shenanigans called Evil Matt Cutts that is a parody of the world-famous Google Engineer Matt Cutts*. Pretty funny stuff. My favorite part?

Speaking of Ask Jeeves, we kicked their asses so bad Jeeves ran away and left just Ask. Now they want you to “try” their new approach to search engines? HA! We could buy your little company with my Christmas bonus.

BTW today is Google’s 8th Birthday. I felt obligated to write that because it is in every forum and blog out there. But did anyone notice what comes up first when you do this query? [google’s 8th birthday] :-)

And this article shows Google thinks MSN is #1 for [Search].

While I’m poking fun of Google, I may as well bring up this classic example of a [miserable failure]. This is not to illustrate my politics but to point out that a viral link campaign can accomplish great things. Nowhere on that first result are the words “miserable failure” but it still ranks #1 at Google.

Why?

Because there are almost 50,000 links pointing to that page with the phrase in question as the anchor text (the text that is the link). Grassroots SEO at it’s finest!

* I couldn’t help myself so I nofollowed that link! ;-)
